(By Salman - iStockAnalyst Writer) US stock futures rose on Monday, taking a cue from rising global markets, as a weaker dollar lifted commodity prices.
At 8:30 am ET, the S&P 500 futures gained 10.30 points to 1100.40. The Dow Jones Industrial average futures climbed 90 points to 10393. The Nasdaq Composite futures rose 15 points to 1778.50.
The US dollar fell against a basket of major currencies after Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis President James Bullard said Sunday that the Fed should extend its mortgage-related asset purchase program beyond a planned end date to bolster the economy. Meanwhile, commodity prices jumped and gold hit another record high amid renewed dollar weakness.
Early on Monday, LDK Solar Co. Ltd. (NYSE: LDK: 8.55, 0.55) on Monday said that its third-quarter net income dropped 67% to $29.4 million, or 27 cents a share, from $88.4 million, or 77 cents a share, in the prior-year quarter. Revenue fell to $281.9 million from $542 million.
Tyson Foods Inc. (NYSE: TSN: 12.88, -0.19) said Monday that it swung to fiscal fourth-quarter loss of $456 million, or $1.22 a share, compared to a profit of $48 million, or 13 cents a share, in the year-earlier period. On an adjusted basis, the company earned 28 cents a share, compared to 13 cents a share, last year. Revenue remained flat at $7.2 billion.
First Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLR: 121.42, 0.24) announced Monday that it has agreed to sell a 21 megawatt solar energy project it's building in Blythe, California to NRG Energy Inc. (NYSE: NRG: 23.98, 0.17) for an undisclosed sum.
PC maker Hewlett-Packard (HPQ: 50.68, 0.64) is scheduled to release its quarterly results after the closing bell.
On the economic front, existing home sales data for the month of October is due for release at 10:00 am on Monday.
US stocks declined on Thursday after BofA-Merrill Lynch analysts downgraded the semiconductors industry, sending technology stocks lower.
European stocks gained in afternoon trade. At 12:50 pm London time, the UK FTSE advanced 85.89 points or 1.64% to 5,337.30. The German DAX and French increased 1.61% and 1.76% respectively.
Asian stocks finished higher. The Hang Seng index of Hong Kong rose 315.55 points or 1.41% to 22,771.39.
NYMEX crude oil for December delivery climbed as much as $1.13, or 1.5 percent, to $78.60 a barrel in electronic trading .
