NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- First Solar Inc. /quotes/comstock/15*!fslr/quotes/nls/fslr (FSLR 121.00, -0.42, -0.35%) said Monday it's selling a 21 megawatt solar energy project it's building in Blythe, Calif. to NRG Energy Inc. /quotes/comstock/13*!nrg/quotes/nls/nrg (NRG 24.01, +0.02, +0.08%) for an undisclosed sum. Located about 200 miles east of Los Angeles, the Blythe project is California's first and largest utility-scale photovoltaic solar generation facility, and among the largest in North America. Construction began in September and is expected to be completed the end of the year. Electricity from the plant will be sold to Southern California Edison /quotes/comstock/13*!eix/quotes/nls/eix (EIX 33.75, -0.03, -0.09%) under a 20-year power purchase agreement.
